The first solo exhibition from artist Mark Chester Harding was inspired by spending time with First Nations communities and a yearning for the Australian bush.
On show in the lobby of Sydney’s Liberty Place from 12 September to 8 October, Mark Chester Harding displayed over two dozen works in ‘See the Vision Splendid of the Sunlit Plains Extended’, which clearly portrayed the distinctive characteristics of Australia’s flora, fauna and unique locales.
The exhibition’s title was a paraphrasing of Banjo Paterson’s poem ‘Clancy of the Overflow’, which depicts an optimistic Sydneysider’s perspective of the outback, a concept echoed in Chester Harding’s work.
Created digitally in the style of block printing, using transparent layers and negative space to concisely represent forms, Chester Harding illustrated moments in time, using a washed-out colour palette and muted tones to strong effect.
‘See the Vision Splendid of the Sunlit Plains Extended’ was presented by Liberty Place, and curated and produced by aMBUSH Gallery (an initiative of Wiltshire + Dimas Management).
