Blak Lens Collective at Darling Quarter

Project Info

Powerful artwork from emerging and established Indigenous artists was presented at Darling Quarter to mark NAIDOC Week 2023.

Blak Lens – a community-led collective of Blak photographers and videographers from across Australia – exhibited large-scale contemporary photography at Darling Quarter from 1-15 July.

The NAIDOC 2023 theme of ‘For Our Elders’ was reflected in the work of Cole Baxter, Colleen Raven, Mandy Smith, and Michael Jalaru Torres, who used their art to pay their respects to the Elders lost, and to those who continue fighting across all Nations, paying homage to their role as cultural knowledge holders, trailblazers, nurturers, advocates, teachers, survivors, leaders, hard workers and loved ones.

The exhibition was presented by Darling Harbour and Darling Quarter and curated by aMBUSH Gallery (an initiative of Wiltshire+Dimas).
