A new entertainment and leisure precinct in the heart of Western Sydney’s Blacktown brought together local artists to reinterpret Westpoint Blacktown and celebrate its people, place and culture.
QIC under the careful guidance of SPACE 360 introduced a large entertainment and leisure precinct to their Westpoint Blacktown shopping centre – a project that commenced early in 2023 and delivered in December of 2023. Wiltshire + Dimas were engaged by QIC in two phases – one to develop the Art Strategy followed by the delivery of the Public Art which included the curation, artist and community engagement, project management, fabrication and installation of all public artworks.
The project brought together some incredible artists in a journey that aimed at celebrating and acknowledging Blacktown’s people, place and culture as the Centre has been part of Western Sydney’s cultural fabric for decades. Artists commissioned were George Rose, Jason Wing, Maddison Gibbs, David Cragg, Brad Eastman, Elliott Routledge, Ben Baxter and Ruth McDermott of McDemott Baxter.
The public artworks will be featured in Blacktown’s City Art Walk from 2024 onwards further cementing the importance of art in the community, creating opportunities for storytelling and creating meaningful places and destinations. Featured exhibition plaques create an outdoor gallery experience by introducing the intention of the artworks and the local artists to local audiences.
