A first for contemporary Australian female artist George Rose where her studio practice intersected with her public art forms at Sydney’s Macquarie Centre. This permanent public art piece adorns one of the Centre’s main entries for the enjoyment of visitors.
The artwork spanning 30 meters across one of the main mall’s entries at Macquarie Centre, draws inspiration from the artists studio practice, where she explores ideas from Abstract Expressionism, Op Art, Minimalism, Gestural Art, Generative Art, Process Art and Color Therapy.
Her deep fascination with Color Theory drives the creation of this artwork, intending to resonate with viewers visually and subconsciously. These pieces are meant to be experienced rather than read. Signature gradients incorporate highly pigmented and contrasting hues, seamlessly blending together and accompanied by bold, gestural marks. This visual combination can sometimes create subtle vibrations within the textures.
George employs recurring rounded motifs such as arches and ovals to serve as visual portals. Each mark is distinct and emerges from oversized brushes she has personally crafted.
Due to the intuitive and performative nature of gestural painting, the act of creation holds great significance in determining the work’s success. Beauty is discovered in the tension between the intentional and the unexpected.
