Louder Than Ever

Project Info

The exhibition Louder Than Ever showcased the vibrant and enduring voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists. Hosted in the lobby of the Citigroup Centre from May 22nd to July 15th, this extraordinary collection served as a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggle for justice and equality, coinciding with both National Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week.

Featuring works by renowned artists Alex Birdfox, David Cragg, Konstantina (Kate Constantine), Michael Jalaru Torres, Lakkari Pitt, Maddie Gibbs, and Judith Crispin, the exhibition highlighted a stunning range of artistic mediums, from traditional paintings to photography and mixed media. Each piece, printed on alu-panels, invited viewers to explore a spectrum of experiences and emotions through a unique lens.

The artworks in Louder Than Ever captured the multifaceted identities of Indigenous communities, from joyous scenes depicting people and family to contemplative landscapes and mystical portrayals of native birds and animals. The exhibition’s vibrant colour palette, ranging from earthy tones to bright hues, emphasised the rich and diverse heritage of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

Louder Than Ever
offered a compelling mix of traditional and contemporary styles, with intricate dot paintings and abstract dreamscapes, as well as detailed photography. The themes explored the depth of Indigenous culture, from symbolic motifs to expressive storytelling.

Beyond its visual impact, Louder Than Ever encouraged visitors to reflect on the broader themes of reconciliation, justice, and the need for connection and respect. The exhibition challenged viewers to confront racism, embrace truth-telling, and support a future where the history and achievements of Indigenous peoples are valued and respected.

Louder Than Ever was presented by the Citigroup Centre and curated and produced by aMBUSH Gallery (an initiative of Wiltshire + Dimas Management).
